What Are Interest Groups and Lobbyists? – Law Terminology

There are a variety of interest groups. Perhaps you’re acquainted with the NAACP who fight for African Americans’ rights and the AARP for people who are retired. There are three main roles that interest organizations play in the legislative branch of the government.

1. They draw the attention of the issues and concerns of the group they represent to the attention of the public as well as policymakers.

2. Their goal is to convince Congress to adopt laws that directly benefit their constituents.

3. They fund and support those who demonstrate their support for the goals and interests that they represent.

The role of interest groups is to function in such an approach that allows the government can listen and respond to the individual’s needs, however they are more interested in being able to hear the complaints and needs of large groups of people working together. 9txo5qsme2.
